As lawyers and judges, we respect the function of legal authority.  But what if our individual consciences are troubled by laws we are called upon to follow, interpret, and apply?  Our clients expect and deserve vigorous advocacy for their causes.  What if their causes at times conflict with our conscience?

The December 2017 “table topic” will explore the scriptures and some thoughts from St. Augustine, Martin Luther, John Henry Newman to focus our discussion.  In addition, we may examine some recent socially contentious cases to see how these ideas may apply in the current legal debate.
